Kitimat sits 58 km south of Terrace down Highway 37, which puts it just off the main line. For a carrier running through from Prince George that distance is an inconvenience. For us it is a short drive from the yard, because Terrace is where we are based. That is the whole reason Kitimat is a regular part of the run rather than something we quote as an exception.
It is also a genuinely industrial town, and the freight is industrial with it: contractor and trade supply, materials heading to the port and the industrial sites, equipment parts, and the steady flow of goods that keeps a working town of that size supplied. Alongside that there is ordinary residential and retail delivery, which the larger carriers tend to price as though Kitimat were the end of the earth.
